Giving away Gold

Posted on Feb 14th, 2006 by Wil : unEYEr1 Wil
I was getting ready to tell you all about the Eastern Youth of Unity who were raising money to build a school in Zambia....$16,000 is their goal, and ask if any of you who could and would contribute to send some funds...

I've been thinking about blogging about this for a while....

8 birds are on a wire, three think of flying off, how many are left?

8, thinking, like knowledge, is nothing without action...

On my way to work this morning I was brought to tears by action.

Joey Cheek won the gold in Olympic Speed Skating.
His mom said, well I guess his years of going around in circles has paid off.  His gold medal comes with $25,000.  He got on the podium at the press conference and said (paraphrased)  hold your questions on humble beginnings and mom and apple pie..I'm not going to talk about my efforts, I want to talk about the tragedy in Sudan, the genocide, and the refuggees in Chad....He went on, to say he is donating his 25k to the relief efforts and asked corporate sponsors to follow suit.  Nike so far has stepped up with a product donation....more should be following this young man's example soon...

Action, taking advantage of timing...two things. Renee (another zaadzter)  has said she is going to Uganda this summer to do what she can...I've asked her to provide more info and tell us what she plans to do, and how to support her.

If you'd like to help build the school, I'll post the results of checks recieved and zaadz efforts right here...you can send checks to

Youth of Unity Zambia School Fund
C/0 Unity Center of Light
3501 Moylan Drive
Bowie, MD 20715.

Make checks out to Zambia School Fund.

thinking, ideas, like knowledge, are nothing without action...

whether you send a check for $20, $50, $100, $1,000 or $10,000, however small or large would be greatly appreciated and acknowledged....

or if this blog leads others to acquire the concept of how zaadz can make a difference, how our ideas can pool together....if it makes someone step from thinking to action...it has done its job.

Namaste all, and thank you Joey and Leendert for starting a thread that got me in motion this morning.

I saw Joey Cheek towards the end of his race, winning gold. It’s funny that although I don’t know the first thing about him (seemingly), when I saw him on the ice through the TV I immediately sensed this was one hell of a guy.Like he was genuine, decent. And that was just from a few seconds of seeing his sprinting on the ice.I know people say you shouldn’t base people on their looks, etc, but hey why not. What I mean is perhaps their is an aura around these type of people that pervades through their actions, whether they’re skating on ice, talking, or just being. The commentators voice had a particular air of respect when describing Joey Cheek, and you can tell that it wasn’t just about the skillful skating, it was about the person as a whole.

Kudos to all such people.

Wow Wil…………….that is awesome………….on all fronts.  An online friend of mine…..Madskier…………….just signed up for the blog.  He just came back from helping build a house for Habitat of Humanity in a shantytown in Africa.  He sent e-pictures……..you should have seen the smiles on those beautiful childrens faces.  Brought me joy just to see the pics………….I would have loved to have been able to go with him.  Perhaps just because I can’t act in body………………I can still act with a check.

Yes it takes Action!

Wil, this is very powerful. This is why I signed up for Zaadz, because it *is* hard for one person, who doesn’t happen to have $25K, to feel like they are making a difference when they send in their measley $50. But, when you are a member of a community where people want to put their $$ to the best possible use, suddenly it is easy to see the difference you are making. I’m looking forward to seeing the totals you post.

P.S. I want to add that I hope, eventually, the sponsors of Zaadz will get on board, too. What a great way to show the people who use Zaadz that they are worthy of our business!!

You'll all be pleased to know they raised the funds.  I missed the last rally I don't know what they are upto, but I do know a school is being built in Zambia. When I get pix I''ll post them, it is truly just a drop in the bucket, but it will be very meaninful to that town and those children.
